Creating Conference Rooms

From the Text Conferencing window, you can create new ad-hoc and persistent rooms. When you create an ad hoc room, you can invite individuals or groups from your roster to join the room. When you create a persistent room, you must send the room name to the contacts you want to join the room. You can also specify options for the rooms you create, or simply use the system defaults set by the Jabber administrator.

To create an ad hoc conference room:

  1. In the Text Conferencing window, select Room > New > AdHoc. The New Ad Hoc Room window opens.

  2. In the Room name textbox, type a name for the room. If you want to create the room on a different conferencing server than the one you logged in on, you can enter the room name as roomname@servername.

  3. In the left pane, select the contacts that you want to invite to the room. You can click a group name to select everyone in that group.

  4. Do one of the following:

To create a persistent conference room:

  1. In the Text Conferencing window, select Room > New > Persistent. The New Persistent Room window opens.

Note: Depending on the server's configuration, you may not have the option to create a persistent room. The server can be configured so that only administrators have this capability.

  1. In the Room name textbox, type a name for the room. If you want to create the room on a different conferencing server than the one you logged in on, you can enter the room name as roomname@servername.

  2. Click OK. The Room Configuration window opens.

  3. Select the options that you want to use, and click OK.

Note: Send the name of your persistent room to those contacts you wish to have join the room.
